D' Day

Writing is never an easy things to do. Plus with someone like us who are always surrounded by numbers. Okay, that is a lie. Accountancy is not all about number. We also learn Law, Business Management, Financial Theory and etc. So those who are interested in taking accountancy because they thought that they will be calculating, think again because it's not.

Well, enough about that, d' day is coming. It's getting nearer and nearer. We can't hide or wish it will go away because 30 other teams will also be facing it. It is the judgement day. LOL. Kinda spooky when we call it as a judgement day but it is the truth. It is very important day for us because that day will determine whether we got it or not.

After reading about other people ideas, sometime we feel that our idea wasn't unique or interesting compare to other. But then again what actually make an idea unique or interesting doesn't mean it is better right? There are other factors that make or break an idea. Thus, holding on to that belief, we will strive forward and never turning back.
Having that light bulb moment is not easy. It doesn't come when you needed it the most. Even the creator of the light bulb, Thomas Edison had thousands of failure before he succeed. Thus, right now, we only have to believe in ourselves and trust our light bulb moment.

The idea

Every great inventors come up with numerous ideas before they find THE ONE. Thus, this is the story of 4 girls who called themselves Teenybopper trying to find THE ONE IDEA to rule them all

An inventor usually have their own little black diaries to fill out with ideas and plan. The same goes with us. This diary is filled with everything that we think of whether it's irrelevant or not. Every little things will be jot down as we believe that there is no ideas that is too small.

Planning stage is crucial whether we wanted to start our own business, inventing gadget for mankind or even baking cakes. A small mistake here could means expensive correction method in the latter stage. Thus, we started the planning stage by finding out what problems that always occur to students.

Students' life is hectic and filled with studies obligation and enjoying life. It's not all bed of roses. Due to that, we wanted to help them lift their problems.

We always thought that students are always in need of money. We even asked in a local forum what is their biggest problem. Most of them claim they needed more money. Their loan or scholarship is not enough to pay for rent, foods and etc. So we come up with the idea of Online Directory for Part Time Job.

Our next problem that we find is finding budget entertainment. Sure there are student's rate for movies and karaoke but some of us wanted to try our hand on paint ball (which very fun by the way. Try it if you haven't done it), go kart racing and maybe extreme sport but we have no idea where is the cheapest place in town. Students with limited fund have to think twice before trying those. Hmm, how to solve it? Ping~ We come up with the idea of free magazine for students on Budget Lifestyle. Where to find the cheapest place to play games, how to travel on a budget, where is the latest warehouse sales and etc.

Our third idea is to come up with a magazine on jobs. Final year students are looking for THE JOB. It's the job that suit them and they will enjoy it. To us, accountant doesn't mean they have to be an accountant. Thus, we provide them idea on what else they could become. Blogger for example is actually a good opportunity for those who like to write. Look at Julie who manage to become famous thanks to her blog. That is just one example and there are much more for students to explore.

Last but not least, is too become the distributor for second hand books. With the books becoming more expensive, students will sought after cheaper books and just renting it for few months. We thought of the idea plan of making a click and mortar where students can find whether education book or novels that they can buy at cheaper price than the book store.

Those idea was great and we are confident that we can use it. However after doing research online, we discover that some of the idea is actually used by one of the winner of the first YES Moneytree Challenge. Hmm, Great mind think alike right. Thus, back to the drawing board. We spent the whole day just to think of an idea that we really like and enjoy doing it.

Finally, we come up with a great idea that we really like and definitely will enjoy doing it. There a saying that goes "If we actually love what we're doing and we go and do what we love, and every day we get up because we're really happy to get up and go and do what we do, you can't actually do that without expression, and art forms part of that mix of expression that makes the whole package of life so enjoyable to be in" by Kerry Stokes.

Well, are you wondering what that great idea is? Well, we will tell you all about it after this Saturday. But here's a clue. It is a mix of the above plus something that two of our team members love to do.

New template. Love it or hate it?

For starters, what do you think of the blog template? It's all thanks to the internet, photoscape and photobucket. LOL. Love it or hate it? Please comment on that so we can make it better.

Executive Summary? What's that?

Executive Summary?

What's that?

Well, to tell all of you the truth even us have no clue what is Executive Summary and what it is used for. Sure we foresee ourselves as business owner in the future but we always assume that we just need some capital, a plan on what we want to sell and marketing strategy to go into business. Well, you know what others said about assume right? It is making and ASS out of U and ME.

Lucky for us we join the YES Moneytree Challenge. Not only we have the oppurtunity to start up our own business but we alse learned how to plan, start and manage it with guidance from the expert. At least now we know what is Executive Summary and how to prepare it.

6 questions that needed to be answer in order for us to plan for our business.

1. What is your product and service?
Well, what really you want to provide to your customers? It might be foods and beverages or even child care service. There is no limit what you can do. There might be many available in the market or you can create your own new products.

2. Who is your market?
The question here is who are you targeting as your customers? For us, we wanted to penetrate the youth's market because we ourselves are teenagers. That's why we call ourselves teenybopper. It actually mean teenagers.

3. What is your revenue model?
Revenue is how you want to get income. Diversification is recommended because by focusing on one method of revenue model, you actually have high risk of loss. By having wide variety of revenue model, at least you know that if one fail, others can cover it.

4. Who is behind the company?
The management, the administrator, the finance officer and etc. Those people will be the backbone for your business. They are important for your business.

5. Who is your competition?
Competition are other business that also sell the same product with you. It might be a direct competition where they sell the same product or it can be an indirect competition. Unlike direct competition, indirect competition sell substitute for your product. It provide the same benefits by using different method. Ice cream direct competitors are Baskin Robbins and Haagen Dazs but those who just want something sweet might opt for Secret Recipe instead.

6. What is your competitive advantage?
What make your business different from others? When they think of something, they will be reminded of your business. It is unique and have other value added service. The more competitive advantage, the better it is.

So, what do you think? Is it easy to do Executive Summary? Well, for a newbies like us, our first Executive Summary received ruthless critiques from UV. LOL. Imagine that. Our first try. But then again, Life is not always easy and simple. When you go out, it will be harsher and ruthless than that. Thus we took the criticism with open arm and figure out how to solve it.

Now, the problem started here. All of us were in our hometown. Amira was in Johor Bahru, Dianah was in Kuantan, Athirah in Negeri Sembilan and Puteri in Subang Jaya. How on earth are we going to discuss it?

Thank god for the people who created the internet, Yahoo Messenger and Handphone. Using technology, we did a conference between the 4 of us and discuss until late night. It wasn't easy communicating online because it lack the certain oomph. However, by hook or crook, we want the Executive Summary to be done ASAP. Well, we managed to do that. It was settled after lengthy discussion and few days of late night sleep.

So, we hope you blogder (blogger+reader) manage to understand what is Executive Summary and how to it. Next post will be on our own business plan, our problem deciding what we want to do, juggling college life with YES and much more. Stay tune.
